An equalities watchdog is set to snub demands to water down a ban on trans people using women's toilets and changing rooms.
Schools, leisure centres, hospitals and cinemas will be told to bar transgender women from single-sex spaces under new guidance due to be revealed this month.
Under the rules by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), trans athletes can be blocked from single-sex sporting competitions.
The measures are also expected to suggest it would be reasonable for a woman to object to the presence of a trans female if she is getting undressed.
The news comes as a victory for women's rights activists, who have been demanding trans women are barred from female-only spaces - but one they say has taken too long to achieve.
