Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has ruthlessly stuck to his policy of squad rotation, making ten changes to his starting line-up for Saturday’s multi-national Test against Scotland at Loftus Versfeld.
Balancing a desire for consistency with the necessity of managing player workloads ahead of the looming rivalry matches against New Zealand in August and September, Erasmus has named a match-day 23 that retains just 10 players from the squad that thrashed England 45-21 last weekend.
Springbok centre Jesse Kriel and flyhalf Handre Pollard are two of the elder statesmen in the Boks' setup.
Five players retain their places in the starting fifteen, led by flanker Pieter-Steph du Toit, who continues as captain following the late withdrawal of Siya Kolisi last week. Du Toit, who earns his 96th cap, is joined by midfielder Jesse Kriel, lock Ruan Nortje, back-rower Paul de Villiers—who made his Test debut against England—and utility back Damian Willemse, who celebrated his 50th cap last weekend.
