The Mizan News Agency, the official media outlet of the Islamic Republic’s judiciary, published a decree on Sunday, July 5, confirming that Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei has been reappointed as the head of the judiciary for a second five-year term. The renewal mandate was issued via a written decree attributed to the regime’s newly designated leader, Mojtaba Khamenei.

Mohseni-Ejei originally assumed leadership of the judiciary on July 1, 2021, following an appointment by the late Ali Khamenei. As his initial five-year tenure expired, the new extension decree, dated July 4 and bearing Mojtaba Khamenei’s signature, was finalized.

According to the official text released by Mizan, the decree states: “Expressing gratitude for your valuable and sincere efforts, and in accordance with Article 157 of the Constitution, I hereby appoint you to the chairmanship of the Judiciary.”

The publication of this high-level state decree comes at a time of intense domestic and international scrutiny. Mojtaba Khamenei was selected to succeed his father as Supreme Leader by the Assembly of Experts in March 2026, following the death of Ali Khamenei during the opening hours of the joint US and Israeli military strikes on February 27.
