I’m in my late 30s,, and over time my university friendship circle has grown apart – we were really close but as people had kids or moved abroad, it’s virtually impossible to get everyone together.

This has been the case for three or four years, but we’ve just realised that we all have a week we could get together in August – the only issue is, I’m out of annual leave. So I’m seriously considering pulling a sicky.

I never ever do things like this but I feel like this is an exceptional case. I would only need to be “sick” for three days. It’s quite risky, as my manager knows some friends of friends, but I would obviously not post anything on social media.

We are going through a project-intensive time at work, where we’ve been told we need to rally so it would put pressure on the team. I don’t want to ask to work remotely in case it’s declined and then it’s more obvious when I pull the sicky. But I’ve been feeling really lonely and low mentally and could do with this pick-me-up.
