Marking 30 years since the death of Greece’s big-screen and stage darling Aliki Vougiouklaki (1934-1996), the Municipal Theater of Piraeus has turned her private dressing room into a permanent tribute.

The exhibition includes the vanity where she did her makeup, personal items, props, costumes and photographs that offer glimpses into the life and stellar career trajectory of a ubiquitous actress, singer and show-woman.

Vougliouklaki captured the Greek people’s hearts with her comedic portrayals of the angelic-faced mischief-maker and her hammy, larger-than-life melodramas as defiant, passionate women undone by love or fate.

Born in 1934 in Athens, she gained fame through popular big-screen romances, comedies and musicals during the ‘Golden Age’ of Greek cinema in the 1950s and 60s, but also through the tabloid appeal of her tumultuous personal life.
