The controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, PFIPC, intensified on Saturday as the Presidency alleged that internal collaborators within government institutions enabled Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi to operate the fictitious agency, even as the Kwankwasiyya Movement demanded a full public explanation over the alleged budgetary allocation to the council.
The latest development has further escalated the dispute involving the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and Adeyemi, whom the Presidency has accused of running a sophisticated fraud by presenting himself as Director-General of the non-existent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council. While the Presidency insists the council never existed, critics argue that reports of budgetary provisions linked to the body raise questions that require an independent investigation.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, said investigators from the Department of State Services, DSS, the Nigeria Police Force and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, should identify and prosecute those within government institutions who allegedly assisted Adeniyi in carrying out the scheme.
