The Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test (TNTET) began in the district on Saturday (July 4, 2026), with 1,876 candidates appearing for Paper I at six examination centres.Conducted by the Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB), Paper I is for candidates aspiring to become secondary grade teachers. Paper II, meant for candidates seeking appointment as graduate teachers (BT Assistants) in middle and high schools, will be held on Sunday (July 5, 2026) at 20 centres, with 5,311 candidates expected to appear. In accordance with a Supreme Court direction making TET mandatory for all teachers, serving teachers are also appearing for the examination.Chief Educational Officer E. Manvizhi said the district administration had appointed 26 Chief Superintendents, 26 Departmental Officers and over 300 invigilators to oversee the conduct of the examinations.A high-level coordination meeting, chaired by the District Collector, was held on June 25 to review the arrangements. Officials from the police, health, transport, fire and rescue services, the electricity departments, the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), and the School Education Department participated. The administration said all necessary arrangements had been made at the centres to ensure the smooth conduct of the examinations.M. Ramasamy, Joint Director (Personnel), School Education Department, has been appointed as the monitoring officer for the examinations in the district.
