Proteas Women's opener Tazmin Britz plays a big shot in the semi-final against England.
Head coach Mandla Mashimbyi believes the Proteas Women have firmly established themselves among the world's leading teams, but warns that sharpening their batting and developing greater squad depth will be crucial if they are to finally lift an elusive ICC trophy.
South Africa's World Cup campaign ended in deep disappointment on Thursday as England produced a clinical performance to reach the final, shattering the Proteas' hopes of adding to their appearances in the last two major ICC finals. While accepting the reality of the defeat, Mashimbyi insisted the semi-final exit should not completely overshadow the structural progress his side has made.
"I don't take anything for granted," Mashimbyi said post-match. "If we get to the same place, we must have done something right. Maybe not in the best way we wanted to do it, but at the end of the day, we want to get World Cup wins, and we did get that."
The coach had no hesitation in acknowledging England's clear superiority on the night.
