Trial Of Patience Jonathan’s Ex-Domestic Workers Stalled As Prosecutors Shun Court, Case Adjourned To July 28

The trial involving former domestic workers of Nigeria’s former First Lady, Patience Jonathan, suffered another setback on Friday after one of the defendants failed to appear in court, forcing the presiding judge to adjourn the case until July 28, 2026.

A source familiar with the proceedings told SaharaReporters that the defence was expected to conclude on Friday, but the absence of the eighth defendant, Boma Oba, reportedly a brother and family relative of the former First Lady, stalled the hearing.

According to the source, no reason was provided for Oba’s absence in court.

“They should have finished their defence today (Friday), but the eighth defendant, Boma Oba, the brother and family relative of former First Lady Patience Jonathan, who is on bail, refused to appear in court today without any reason. The court had no choice but to adjourn the case to the 28th of this month for the defence to be concluded,” the source said.
