FIFA just pushed back the Brazil vs. Norway Round of 16 match by one hour at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, after the US National Weather Service issued extreme heat warnings. Temperatures at the venue are expected to surpass 40°C, or about 104°F, which is less “beautiful game” and more “survival challenge.”
The new kickoff is set for approximately 5:00 PM ET on July 5, 2026.
Prediction markets light up on the delay
On Polymarket, Brazil currently sits at roughly 51.5% implied probability to win the match. That’s a razor-thin edge for a five-time World Cup champion facing Norway in a knockout round.
Brazil’s squad depth and experience with tropical heat would seem to favor them even in extreme conditions. Norway, led by Erling Haaland, who reportedly scored the winner in their previous match, has been managing player fatigue throughout the tournament. An additional hour before kickoff could actually benefit a tired Norwegian side more than it helps an already-acclimated Brazilian one.
