England coach Steve Borthwick has challenged his youthful side to embrace the occasion at Ellis Park rather than be intimidated by it when they face the world champion Springboks in Saturday’s Nations Championship Test in Johannesburg.

Well aware of the monumental task that awaits them in the City of Gold (5.40pm kick-off), Borthwick insists his side must stay true to their strengths and play with the energy, ambition and confidence that have become hallmarks of his team.

The England coach acknowledged the challenge posed by the back-to-back world champions, describing them as the benchmark in world rugby after years of sustained success under Rassie Erasmus.

“They’ve been the number one side in the world for a long period, back-to-back world champions,” he said.
