The Springboks are currently on a roll in their rivalry with England — they have won the last three games — but Rassie Erasmus has pointed out that the Boks have been put to the sword by the Red Rose army whenever they have got cocky.

The Springbok coach was speaking at his team announcement press conference on Monday ahead of Saturday’s Test-season opener against England at Ellis Park, 5.40pm kick-off.

“When I was a player, we went to Twickenham in 1998 on 17 Test wins and hoping to break the world record (for consecutive tier one victories), but England took it away from us,” Erasmus recalled. “That was (coach) Nick Mallett’s team, and we were on a roll, only to be humbled by England at Twickenham.

“It has always been a great rivalry,” Erasmus said.
