Heads of various industry associations who met the Tamil Nadu Industries Minister, S. Keerthana, in Coimbatore on Friday sought measures to expedite expansion of the Coimbatore International Airport. The association representatives explained the need for expanding the airport to boost industrial activity in the western region. There were also suggestions submitted to the Minister regarding land use reclassification. If the dry agricultural lands that do not have farming activity can be classified as industrial land, industries will find it easy to invest and investors from other places will be able to identify lands easily, they said. There are several lands marked as agriculture in the revised Coimbatore Master Plan though industries or commercial establishments are operating on those plots for several years. These should be reclassified according to the current land use, they said. Published - July 03, 2026 08:26 pm IST
