Killing two people, injuring others and damaging dozens of homes beyond repair, the Richmond Hill community was forced to be torn down before it could be rebuilt.‌Teasing the episode, Netflix's Tudum wrote: "Monserrate Shirley, affectionately called Moncy by her friends and family, became a foundational part of the tight-knit community of Richmond Hill, Indiana, the second she moved in."But she goes through a sudden divorce and moves her new boyfriend, Mark Leonard, into her home. Leonard has a criminal record, and Moncy’s closest friends grow increasingly concerned.‌"Then, on Nov. 10, 2012, Moncy’s house explodes, leaving two people in the vicinity dead, injuring dozens of others, and destroying upwards of 30 homes. When investigators find the cause, life in this friendly subdivision outside Indianapolis changes forever."What happened to Richmond Hill?On November 10, 2012, a catastrophic gas explosion destroyed the neighbourhood. It remains one of the most destructive and high profile insurance fraud cases in the US.‌Shortly after 11pm that evening, an explosion was heard and felt for miles, with neighbours mistaking it for a bomb. It was Monserrate Shirley's home that had caught fire, an explosion that killed her two neighbours Dion Longworth and his wife Jennifer.Several others were injured, dozens of homes were destroyed and many people were forced to evacuate, with over 30 properties eventually needing to be completely demolished due to severe damage. However, investigators soon realised the explosion was not accidental, discovering it was in fact planned in the hopes of an insurance payout.‌What happened to Monserrate Shirley's house?Content cannot be displayed without consentAfter the disaster zone was secured and homes were demolished, rebuilding began.
