Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has defended the limited rollout of Lenacapavir, a ground-breaking six-monthly injectable drug designed for HIV prevention.
The rollout of the new HIV treatment programme was launched by President Cyril Ramaphosa at the Lilian Ngoyi Stadium in Secunda, Mpumalanga, last month.
The new treatment has been described as offering a significant shift from the daily pill burden that has defined HIV prevention for decades by providing powerful protection through just two doses per year.
It is introduced as part of South Africa's broader strategy to reduce new HIV infections and advance efforts to end Aids as a public health threat by 2030.
