Western Cape police are investigating the murder of a Ghanaian national in Nyanga.

Kwabena Boagen, 35, was shot and killed in broad daylight at the Nyanga terminus on Monday afternoon in what cops believe to be linked to the crime of extortion.

Police spokesperson, Novela Potelwa, said: “The South African Police Service in the Western Cape regrettably confirms the murder of a Ghanaian national in Nyanga on Monday, 29 June 2026 in circumstances that are believed to be linked to the crime of extortion.

Official crime scene reports indicate that the deceased male person, later identified as 35-year-old Mr Kwabena Boagen was shot at the Nyanga Terminus in front of NTG hair salon and shoe repairs on Monday in circumstances that point to the crime of extortion by yet-to be arrested gunmen. He was declared dead by Emergency Medical Services personnel on the scene.

“A murder docket was subsequently opened for investigation by Nyanga detectives who are in contact with a relative of the deceased person and on behalf of the SAPS conveyed heartfelt condolences.
