Sir, – Katherine Quirke (Letters, July 1st) decries people’s tendency to behave in a “business as usual” way when extreme heatwaves show us the extent of the developing climate chaos, and urges us to adopt more climate-sensitive behaviour, for example, by flying less.I am not sure I agree. If I were to change my lifestyle right now, the main thing that would achieve would be to allow more spare capacity for the data centres which our Government are continuing to allow to proliferate. In fact, why should I make any personal sacrifices while this Government recklessly gives such an enormous amount of our energy and emissions capacity to these centres? For that reason, until there is a moratorium on all further data centres in Ireland, I think I might as well carry on behaving exactly as I please. – Yours etc.RICHARD BARRETT,Upper Rathmines Road,Dublin 6.
