A police officer and a detainee being transported to a court hearing were killed in a traffic accident in Ukraine's Mykolaiv region, while two other officers were injured.

According to Ukrinform, the Kherson Regional Police reported the incident on Facebook.

"At around 05:00 on June 2, a traffic accident involving injuries and fatalities occurred in the village of Olhopil, Voznesensk district. Preliminary findings indicate that a Renault Duster collided with a truck that was stationary within the roadway," the statement said.

As a result of the crash, a 44-year-old police officer from the Kherson region was killed. His colleagues, aged 48 and 20, sustained injuries of varying severity. A 49-year-old man with the status of "SZCh" (unauthorized absence from military service), whom law enforcement officers were transporting to a court hearing under a court order, also died at the scene from his injuries.

Representatives of the local police unit, as well as the Main Inspectorate and Internal Security departments of the Kherson and Mykolaiv regional police, are working at the scene.
