In a surprise move Thursday afternoon, Ontario’s provincially supervised school boards publicly posted their budgets for next year, revealing that while supervisors have found tens of millions of dollars in cuts, they remain deep in deficit.

The Toronto District School Board, one of eight boards under provincial supervision, says its projected 2026-27 budget deficit has been reduced to about $15 million, from $74.5 million, after the supervisor identified $59.5 million in savings.
