The police have registered a case against a 31-year-old man from a village near Madukkarai in Coimbatore district, on charge of stabbing his neighbour’s pet dog to death over alleged ‘excessive barking’.N. Vimalkumar, a resident of Muruga Kovil Street at Palathurai, was booked by the Madukkarai police on Wednesday, based on a complaint lodged by V. Balakrishnan, anti-cruelty officer with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Coimbatore.Mr. Balakrishnan received an alert from Ranjithkumar of Palathurai around 4 p.m. on June 29 stating that his three-year-old male Pomeranian dog was stabbed to death by Vimalkumar, accusing it of barking excessively.Mr. Balakrishnan visited the spot and made arrangements for the post-mortem examination of the dog. He lodged a complaint at the Madukkarai police station the next day, based on which a case was registered against Vimalkumar under Section 325 (mischief by killing or maiming animal) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
