Summer holidaymakers using the Port of Dover face queues even worse than the chaotic scenes over the May half-term due to the EU’s controversial Entry/Exit System (EES), the port’s head has warned the Government.

Doug Bannister said holiday gridlock at the port in July and August could be “far worse” than logjams seen in May, when a critical incident was called due to EES causing four-and-a-half hour tailbacks.

“We still do not have a workable solution agreed and time is rapidly running out,” said the Port of Dover CEO, warning of “repeated episodes of severe congestion throughout the summer holiday period”.

Kent roads faced being clogged with “queueing cars spilling out of the port.. for miles”, said Bannister, who urged the Government to press France and the EU for a suspension of EES this summer.
