French authorities are not planning to suspend Entry/Exit System (EES) border processing at Dover in the event of traffic congestion, sparking fears of huge jams over the summer holidays, Kent officials have warned.
The port is braced for its busiest weekend of the year, with around 10,000 cars heading for France on Saturday and 10,500 outbound vehicles expected on both days next weekend.
MPs warned last week that passengers face “utter chaos” at the port due to EES over the summer after the EU’s new border checks were launched last year.

The Government has already secured Lydden Hill motor racing track, about five miles from Dover, as an emergency site to hold cars as a last resort if EES queues build on roads to the port and Eurotunnel.
