Inspections of companies dealing with anything to do with vehicles – sales, maintenance, repair, parking, spare parts and haulage – have shown a more than 50% rate of tax delinquency, the country’s independent tax authority, AADE, said Thursday.
An AADE statement said that so far this year 1,145 inspections of companies in the sector have been carried out, with the help of digital databases, and 693 were found to have broken tax regulations – a rate of 60.5%.
Fines worth a total €500,000 were imposed, while 12 companies were shut down for two days.
Most of the violations had to do with activities related to road haulage, followed by vehicle repair and maintenance firms.
In 2025, targeted inspections were carried out on 949 companies and 505 were caught for tax code violations – a delinquency rate of 53.2%. Most had to do with receipts, which were either not forwarded to tax authorities or not even issued.
