A man from South Trinidad is in police custody in connection with the murder of MTS worker Neisha Roberts, of Mt St George, Tobago. The 41-year-old suspect was held by police disembarking the Galleons Passage in Port of Spain yesterday afternoon.

murdered at home: Neisha Roberts

Roberts, who was stabbed several times, is Tobago’s seventh murder for the year so far and the second woman to be killed. The suspect was observed leaving her home early yesterday and the police were alerted.Roberts was found in a pool of blood in her bathroom shortly after 7 a.m. by her niece.Superintendent of Police Rodhil Kirk told the Express that the police received a call around 7.20 a.m.“Information was received and a man from South Trinidad was detained while disembarking the Galleons Passage in Port of Spain yesterday afternoon.“Rest assured that the Homicide Bureau and the investigating team will do all within their power to bring the perpetrator of this crime to justice.“We want to thank members of the public who shared information with the police which led to the detention of the suspect,” Kirk said.Marsha Roberts, cousin of the victim, told the Express that a suspect in custody was no relief to the family.“Whether he is in police possession, that cannot bring back (Neisha), that cannot comfort us in any way. The fact is that he’s off the street, so another victim or another person would not have to deal with that consequence,” Roberts said.“I don’t think anything right now could bring any type of comfort, in the sense that we lose a loved one and I don’t think anything could replace her; the only thing that could help us right now is that God give us strength to live with all this and to overcome what took place.”Pastor Darian Rouse told the Express that Roberts was dedicated to God, a faithful member of the Mt St George Seventh-day Adventist Church and a dedicated deaconess.“(Tuesday) we were at a function together at a primary school graduation in our district. She was a very dedicated worker; in fact, when I spoke to her, she said, ‘Pastor, I am going to ensure that the church is clean and everything is organised before I leave,’” Rouse said.He said the crime situation was getting bad in Tobago.“I really believe that as a nation, we go back to God, we go back to prayer, we humble ourselves as a nation and let the love of Christ take over our hearts. I remain shocked by her death. It is devastating and our church community is shaken at this time,” he said.Area representative and Tobago House of Assembly member for Mt St George/Goodwood Megan Morrison yesterday offered condolences to Roberts’ family.“I am deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of Neisha Roberts from our beloved community of Mt St George. To her family, friends and loved ones, please accept my most heartfelt condolences.“There are no words that can adequately ease the pain of losing a life, but please know that our entire community stands with you in your time of grief...,” Morrison said.
