Canada will participate in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest, with its debut set for the 2027 edition to be held in Bulgaria, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) announced on Wednesday.
The EBU confirmed the participation together with Canada’s national public broadcaster CBC/Radio-Canada, marking a new expansion of the competition. “The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and its newest member CBC/Radio-Canada are delighted to announce that Canada will participate in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027 in Bulgaria,” the statement said.
Canada becomes the first country to join Eurovision since Australia’s entry in 2015, further underscoring the contest’s global reach beyond Europe. “Although the contest was born in Europe, it continues to welcome the whole world,” Eurovision Director Martin Green said.
The 2027 edition will mark Canada’s first appearance, following Bulgaria’s recent win at the contest with Dara’s song “Bangaranga,” which secured victory in Vienna during the 70th anniversary edition of the event. The track also recently topped seasonal streaming charts on Spotify.
Alongside the announcement, the Bulgarian government confirmed it has adopted an Action Plan for the preparation of Eurovision 2027. The plan, developed by the organizing committee led by Deputy Prime Minister for Human Resources Ivo Hristov, outlines specific tasks, deadlines, responsible institutions, and expected outcomes.
