Emergency personnel working to clear the accident scene
A truck driver was killed on Thursday morning after a heavy-duty truck collided with a minibus taxi on the N12 West, just beyond the Comaro Road off-ramp in the Bassonia/Gleneagles area, causing major traffic congestion as emergency crews work to clear the scene.
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) said officers remain on site managing the aftermath of the crash, which has forced the closure of three westbound lanes.
“Motorists are strongly advised to seek alternative routes as the incident is causing massive traffic backups and severe delays,” JMPD spokesperson, Superintendent Xolani Fihla said in a statement.
According to the department, the truck driver died at the scene.
