Yet another fatal bus crash has claimed 16 lives after a passenger coach overturned on the N1 near Touws River in the Western Cape in the early hours of Wednesday.

The latest tragedy comes just hours after another deadly bus crash near the Beitbridge Border Post in Limpopo, where a bus driver transporting Malawian nationals from KwaZulu-Natal to the Repatriation Camp died and 11 passengers were injured after the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle due to fatigue.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), emergency and disaster management personnel responded to the latest crash at approximately 12:45am.

“SAPS members, together with emergency and disaster management personnel, responded to a fatal bus crash on the N1 near Touws River... this morning,” police said.

Preliminary information indicates that the bus, carrying 78 passengers from Cape Town to the Eastern Cape, overturned. Police said no other vehicles were involved in the incident. Fifteen passengers were declared dead at the scene.
