Sir Keir Starmer has said an extra £15billion investment in defence will mean the UK will be ready to fight Russia if Vladimir Putin launches an attack in 2030.The Prime Minister acknowledged some other areas of Government spending would be slashed in order to fund defence, with cuts to road and energy projects. The new Defence Investment Plan (DIP) includes billions more for the next generation of stealth jets and the largest ever investment in drone warfare. But Sir Keir was accused of passing the buck to Andy Burnham by short-changing the military in his plan, with critics saying it was not enough to protect the country. It emerged that only £10.3billion in savings had been identified, meaning it contains a £4.7billion black hole Mr Burnham will have to fill in his Budget this autumn. Now you can have your say in the Daily Mail’s latest poll - does Sir Keir's plan do enough to protect Britain?
