The Delhi government will constitute a Model Approval Committee under the Transport Department to determine models eligible for incentives under the Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy, 2026, which came into effect on Wednesday. The policy, notified after Cabinet approval, introduces purchase and scrapping incentives across vehicle categories and mandates a gradual shift to electric vehicles. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said only models approved by the committee, based on technical standards and eligibility criteria, will qualify for incentives.Purchase incentives for two-wheelers apply to models priced up to ₹2.25 lakh, while scrapping incentives for cars are limited to those costing up to ₹30 lakh (ex-showroom).Applicants must apply for incentives within 30 days of registration, with subsidies to be disbursed within 60 days via direct benefit transfer.Vehicles availing incentives cannot be transferred or re-registered outside Delhi for three years. The policy emphasises electrification of two-wheelers, three-wheelers and commercial vehicles, citing their significant contribution to pollution.Delhi Transco Limited will act as the nodal agency for charging infrastructure, while the DPCC will oversee battery management systems.
