Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported that the terms of the contract likely are to be five years and $35 million.Marchment, 31, had 19 goals and 26 assists with the Seattle Kraken and Columbus Blue Jackets last season. Much of that was done with the Blue Jackets as his games responded with 15 goals and 32 points in 39 games after Columbus acquired the left wing in a trade.Marchment’s father, Bryan, was a popular player for the Sharks over six seasons and worked as a scout with the franchise, including at the time of his death in 2022 at age 53.
Marchment called it a “full circle” moment to join the Sharks and said in an TSN interview that Macklin Celebrini was an attractive element as he weighed offers from multiple teams.“He comes in and he really took the league by storm,” Marchment said. “Just playing against him, watching him, watching clips of him, he’s a one-of-a-kind kind of player. Just to go join them and help build that is something I’ve always kind of in the back of my head kind of wanted to do.“I think it’s perfect timing. They’re on the up and they got so many young, talented players. (GM Mike Grier) has done a great job of bringing in some guys to help them and hopefully I can be one of those guys.”
