Differently abled persons staging a protest against the changing of MGNREAGA scheme as VB-RAM G in front of the Ramanathapuram Collectorate on Wednesday.

Members of the Tamil Nadu Association for the Rights of All Types of Differently Abled and Caregivers (TARATDAC) staged a protest condemning the renaming of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) as Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G).TARATDAC district secretary M. Rajkumar demanded that the union government provide 100 per cent funding for the 100-day work scheme, provide 100-day work to everyone holding a differently abled identity card, increase the 100 days to 200 days, and provide a daily wage of ₹700.Following this, the differently abled person wore black bands and engaged in a road blockade on the Ramanathapuram-Rameswaram highway. The police arrested 20 persons.Similarly, urging the same demands, the police arrested 123 persons, including 51 women, who engaged in a road blockade near the Mudukulathur bus stand under the leadership of the association’s district president, Rajesh.Near the Kamuthi bus stand, 61 persons, including 17 women, who staged a road blockade were arrested.Near the Sikkal bus stand, the police arrested 27 persons, including seven women, who engaged in a protest.
