Dina Pule has been appointed as Minister of Social Development.
The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation has sharply criticised President Cyril Ramaphosa's appointment of Dina Pule as Minister of Social Development while simultaneously demanding urgent answers from the government over former president Jacob Zuma's reported meeting with state capture accused Ajay Gupta in India.
In a strongly worded statement released on Wednesday, the foundation said the two developments raised serious concerns about South Africa's commitment to ethical governance, accountability and the rule of law.
Pule is replacing controversial Sisisi Tolashe, whom Ramaphosa fired on May 14 for various unethical behaviour, including failure to disclose two luxury cars donated to the ANC Women's League, which were allegedly registered in her children's names.
The foundation described Pule's appointment as "deeply alarming", arguing that individuals with controversial records should not be entrusted with positions responsible for serving the country's most vulnerable citizens.
