A new data center campus could be coming to North Dakota. As part of a proposed merger, Nixxy, a former recruitment site-turned-AI data center developer, has partnered with US energy and data center infrastructure developer Tachyon 9 to construct a $1 billion, up to 1GW data center in North Dakota. The campus, spanning around 620 acres in North Dakota's energy corridor, is designed to use behind-the-meter generation via Baker Hughes hydrogen-capable turbines, with a pre-combustion decarbonization option intended to reduce carbon intensity over time.According to the companies, the project's energy strategy would incorporate hydrogen-rich fuel blends generated from natural gas that would otherwise be flared. In addition, the project is expected to deploy a closed-loop liquid-cooling system that recirculates an initial water fill rather than drawing continuously from freshwater supplies. The first 120–150MW of compute capacity is targeted for the second quarter of 2027, subject to financing, regulatory approvals, and completion of the Nixxy-Tachyon 9 transaction. Long-term plans target 1GW.Nixxy said the project is expected to qualify under the US government's Fourth State Initiative under Section 45V of the clean hydrogen tax credit."Firm on-site power, a pathway toward lower-carbon operations, and dramatically reduced water consumption represent what we believe the next generation of AI infrastructure should look like," said Shahal Khan, CEO of Tachyon 9.According to reports, Tachyon 9 is contributing approximately $64 million in equipment, land option rights for the Nakota project, and a signed letter of intent for the full 1GW development to the merger. The combined entity would be listed on Nasdaq.Nixxy pivoted to AI last year in 2024, and last year closed the acquisition of Everythink Innovations Limited's (EIL) Edge data center assets, a telecom and Edge infrastructure provider with operations in Fremont, California, and Vancouver, Canada. The company was formerly known as Recruiter.com Group, Inc.
