According to information obtained by IranWire, Ahmad Banijamali, a political science professor at Islamic Azad University’s Central Tehran Branch, has been suspended until further notice by direct order of the university’s chancellor.

An informed source told IranWire that, by direct order of the chancellor of the Central Tehran Branch and a ruling by the disciplinary committee, he has been barred from attending all classes, and his access to university-related digital platforms has been blocked.

This university professor had previously faced a one-year suspension in the autumn of 2022, following the widespread crackdown on universities during the “Woman, Life, Freedom” protest movement, on charges such as “disturbing public opinion” and “inciting students to participate in protest rallies.”

Following the January protests and the subsequent 40-day war in Iran, numerous civil and trade union activists, students, and university professors have faced fabricated legal cases, restrictions, and disciplinary actions imposed by university disciplinary committees or security apparatuses.
