Residents of Choolaimedu have urged the authorities to take up various infrastructure projects to improve transport connectivity and civic amenities in their locality. In a recent meeting with Assembly Speaker and Thousand Lights MLA J.C.D. Prabhakar at Choolaimedu, residents and members of Choolaimedu Exnora Innovators Club discussed key issues that need to be addressed in the locality.Residents wanted the old sewer lines in Zachariah Colony, Choolaimedu, to be improved to prevent sewage blocks. They said that the network in the locality needs a thorough investigation to identify sources of frequent blocks.S. Kasturi Rangan, the club’s secretary, said the Nungambakkam subway is choked with traffic due to increasing vehicle volume. An elevated corridor at Nelson Manickam Road would help ease congestion at the Choolaimedu High Road–Nelson Manickam Road junction and ensure smooth flow between Aminjikarai and Loyola College, he said.Residents of Choolaimedu also discussed the lack of public transport facilities. There are no buses from Choolaimedu to connect Arcot Road, Nelson Manickam Road, and Nungambakkam Railway Station. Commuters largely rely on auto-rickshaws or walk two km to Nelson Manickam Road. Measures must be taken to resume small bus services in Choolaimedu.Residents also wanted pedestrian subways to be built at important junctions. Mr. Prabhakar assured the residents that their demands would be considered and measures would be taken to resolve civic issues. Published - July 01, 2026 06:14 am IST
