The last bourse session of June and the first half of the year offered less window-dressing than expected, as there was more stock-picking and less cashing in on gains, with the end result being determined by the outperformance of sellers at the closing auctions. In total, June proved to be the third consecutive month of growth for the benchmark, that recorded monthly gains of 3.67%. Since the start of the year the main index has climbed 15.99%.

The Euronext Athens (ATHEX) general index closed at 2,459.77 points, shedding 0.31% from Monday’s 2,467.50 points. The large-cap FTSE-25 index contracted 0.35%, ending at 6,233.16 points.

The banks index eased 0.15%, as on the one hand Piraeus grew 1.09%, Eurobank climbed 0.17% and Optima rose 0.10%, and on the other Bank of Cyprus lost 1.90%, CrediaBank fell 1.03%, National gave up 0.76% and Alpha slipped 0.30%.

In total, 50 stocks boasted gains, 60 posted losses and 15 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to €290.9 million, up from Monday’s €236.8 million.
