The Karnataka App Based Workers Union (KAWU) has alleged that the closure of a quick commerce facility in Vidyaranyapura by officials for selling expired and spoiled grocery items has left 250 workers without work and pay. The union noted that the neglect of the quick commerce platform’s management has put both customers and workers at risk. “The management is responsible for the proper stocking and disbursement of safe groceries, while the delivery workers are responsible only for transport and logistics. This is not only a public health issue, but a labour rights issue as well,” KAWU said in a statement. Inayath Ali, KAWU president, termed it “utter neglect of the corporate management, forcing workers to go without pay”. “If this continues, KAWU will have no choice but to go on strike to demand fair wages for workers who are showing up to do their job,” he said.
