The government is planning to take over local granite tile producer Granito to prevent a complete shutdown after the company was hit hard by surging industrial gas prices, according to the All-Indonesian Workers Union Confederation (KSPSI).KSPSI president Andi Gani Nena Wea said the decision was made to rescue the company and protect its workers.
“If the company is unable to continue [operations], even with reduced gas prices, and it still doesn’t resume operations, I emphasize that the government will take over the company to protect the workers who have been laid off,” he said on Monday, as quoted by Kompas.com.
