Justice Minister, Mmamoloko Kubayi, has warned against the repeat of July 2021 unrest, while pleading for calm in the June 30 legal protests.

Justice Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi has warned that South Africa will not allow a repeat of the July 2021 unrest, saying lessons have shaped the state’s security readiness ahead of planned demonstrations on June 30.

Speaking at a media briefing on Tuesday, Kubayi, who chairs the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Migration, stressed that the constitutional right to protest remained protected.

She said that it must be exercised peacefully without endangering lives or property.

Kubayi said intelligence reports and the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NatJoints) indicate no major incidents so far, crediting early preparedness for the calm environment observed during the protest activity.
