A €40 bus fare and a 20:00 check-in cut short his travel plans.
Slovak travel influencer Milan Bardún has criticised the cost and convenience of domestic travel after abandoning plans to spend an extra night in Banská Bystrica, arguing that travelling around Slovakia without a car remains unnecessarily difficult.
In a social media post, the creator behind the travel platform Milan Bez Mapy said he had intended to combine a business trip with a short stay in the central Slovak city, including an evening in the historic centre and visits to local restaurants.
Instead, he cancelled his overnight stay after finding that a return bus ticket from Bratislava cost €40 and learning that his chosen accommodation would not allow check-in after 20:00, despite notifying the property that he expected to arrive at 22:00.
Bardún said renting a car ultimately proved more practical than travelling by public transport and staying overnight.
