A Mixed Jury Court in Iraklio, Crete, reached a unanimous guilty verdict for a 27-year-old mother and her 44-year-old partner who abused a three-year-old toddler to death.
The two suspects were found guilty of manslaughter by complicity, causing injuries and serious intentional harm, exposing a minor to danger, use and possession of a weapon, and illegal possession of a hunting rifle.
The man was also found guilty of collecting and recording personal data. The court rejected a claim for diminished accountability of the mother, requested by her defense.
The child’s biological father, who had been accused of abuse at an earlier time, was acquitted.
The three-year-old boy was admitted to PAGNI hospital on January 26, 2025, with signs of severe abuse. Examinations revealed multiple injuries, including bruises, contusions and burns in various stages of healing, suggesting prolonged abuse. He was declared brain dead after spending a week in the pediatric ICU.
