The Basadi in Music Awards (BIMA) have announced internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Monique Bingham as the recipient of the 2026 International Recognition Award, honouring her decades-long influence on global house music and her lasting connection with South African audiences.
The announcement comes as the awards celebrate their fifth anniversary under the theme “REWIND”, recognising artists whose contributions have shaped the music industry across generations and borders.
For nearly three decades, Bingham has remained one of the most distinctive voices in house music, known for her soulful vocals, emotive songwriting, and powerful collaborations that have helped define the genre’s global sound.
Her work with renowned producers such as Black Coffee, Mobi Dixon, and DJ Christos has cemented her reputation as a key figure in both international and South African house music scenes.
For South African fans, her music has become deeply personal, forming part of the soundtrack to dance floors, friendships, and cultural moments that span years.
