The HRANA news agency reported on Monday, June 29, that civil rights activist Rezvaneh Ahmadkhanbeigi returned to Evin Prison on Monday to serve the remainder of her prison sentence, accompanied by her toddler daughter.
According to HRANA’s report, Rezvaneh Ahmadkhanbeigi was sent to Evin Prison alongside her daughter, Mehfar Lalezari, who is less than two years old, to continue serving her prison sentence.
The civil rights activist had previously been granted medical leave from Evin Prison on September 18, 2024, to give birth.
Rezvaneh Ahmadkhanbeigi and her husband, Behfar Lalezari, were each sentenced to 10 years in prison in January 2024 on charges of “assembly and collusion against internal security” and “propaganda against the regime.” While this verdict was initially upheld in March of that year, their sentences were later reduced to 21 months’ imprisonment after a judicial review request was accepted and the case was re-examined by a parallel court branch.
The couple was originally arrested by security forces at their private residence on September 18, 2023.
