Ukraine is introducing hourly power outage schedules due to extreme heat, rising demand, and the impact of Russian strikes on energy infrastructure.
Regional distribution companies in several regions, including Kyiv, announced restrictions for June 30. The outages are expected to be short‑term and will primarily affect regions with the most damaged networks, Energy Research Center Director Oleksandr Kharchenko told Ukrinform.
Kharchenko said the main factor behind the strained system remains ongoing Russian attacks.
“The overall state of the energy system is difficult. Practically every week we record two to three strikes on energy infrastructure, and they continue constantly,” he noted.
He added that abnormal heat is sharply increasing consumption, while damaged grids cannot always deliver the required volumes.
