A large-scale celebration marking 250 years of US independence was held in Brussels on Sunday, bringing together thousands of invited guests, senior politicians, diplomats, and military personnel at Parc du Cinquantenaire near key EU institutions.

The event, organised by the US Embassy in Belgium, was described as an “invitation-only celebration” under the theme “250 Years of Independence: Building Our Future Together.” Activities included baseball games, mechanical bull rides, line dancing, food stalls, live music, an air show, and a closing drone and fireworks display.

Among the high-profile attendees were Belgian Prime Minister Bart de Wever, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, alongside multiple Belgian ministers, European officials, and US military personnel stationed in Brussels.

In remarks shared on social media, Metsola highlighted the long-standing transatlantic partnership, describing it as one that has endured “triumphs and challenges alike.”

Celebrating a transatlantic partnership that has created history’s best of times and stood solid through the worst of times over the last 250 years. Our way endures because it matters ???????????????? https://t.co/ytsvud0z2O
