Members of the South African Human Rights Commission urge for peaceful protests as the nation prepares for the upcoming marches on 30 June 2026.
The South African Human Rights Commission has called for calm and adherence to the rule of law as protests over illegal migration escalate across the country, with additional marches scheduled for Tuesday.
While reaffirming that the right to protest is constitutionally protected, the Commission emphasised the need for responsible and lawful exercise of this right.
“The Commission acknowledges that the right to protest is a fundamental right guaranteed in terms of the South African Constitution,” the Commission said.
“When exercised lawfully, the right to protest gives people a voice, strengthens participatory democracy, promotes accountability, and advances human rights.”
