The JMPD says motorists should expect significant delays as three approved marches involving thousands of participants are set to take place across the city on June 30.
Motorists travelling through Johannesburg and Pretoria on Tuesday have been warned to expect significant traffic disruptions as several planned and officially approved marches are set to take place in both cities, including demonstrations calling for stricter action against undocumented foreign nationals.
While authorities have confirmed a number of organised protests, including three approved marches in Johannesburg and a major March and March demonstration in Pretoria, law enforcement agencies have cautioned that additional unplanned protests or gatherings may also occur.
Police and metro officers will remain on high alert throughout the day to respond to any spontaneous demonstrations, with motorists urged to plan their journeys in advance and avoid affected areas where possible.
JMPD spokesperson Superintendent Xolani Fihla said three legally approved marches will take place concurrently in the Johannesburg inner city, Hillbrow and Midrand (Glen Austin) areas.
