Minister for Non-Resident Tamils Welfare K. Thennarasu inspected the Sri Lankan Tamil refugee camp at Vanniyar in Molayanur panchayat in Paapireddipatti. Accompanied by R. Sadheesh, Director for the Welfare and Rehabilitation of Non-Resident Tamils, the Minister said, all the existing welfare schemes and financial assistance to the Sri Lankan Tamil refugees shall continue in a timely manner.The Minister also received petitions seeking basic amenities including toilet facilities, roads, clean drinking water, bus facility, along with welfare benefits including old age pension and employment.The camp at Vanniyar has over 739 members and 252 families, including 304 women and 301 men. In addition, 30 families of Sri Lankan refugees are sheltered in the Agriculture Regulated Marketing Society building in Harur.The Minister assured the residents of the camps that they would receive all necessary assistance from the government and that action on their petitions would be expedited.
