A group of Mokwa flood victims and community representatives has petitioned the Nigeria Police Force, calling for an urgent investigation into the alleged diversion, mismanagement and corrupt handling of more than N5 billion in cash donations and relief materials contributed for victims of the 2025 Mokwa flood disaster in Niger State.
The petition, a copy of which was obtained by SaharaReporters, was submitted to the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja, through the Commissioner of Police, Special Enquiry Bureau (SEB).
It was filed by I.U Wali Law Firm on behalf of Isah Abubakar (popularly known as Isah Mokwa), Mallam Hussaini Umar Kwangila and Mr. Bilyaminu Umar.
According to the petition, Mallam Hussaini Umar Kwangila and Mr. Bilyaminu Umar are direct victims of the flood who lost properties and loved ones, while Isah Abubakar is acting "in his capacity as a native of Mokwa Local Council, and a public commentator directly linked to the people and victims of the Mokwa flood disaster."
The petition recalled that "on the 29th of May 2025, an intense overnight rainfall triggered one of the catastrophic flash floods in Nigeria's recent history," devastating Mokwa town in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.
