Taiwanese companies are keen on South TN for their electronics and semiconductor projects

A delegation comprising around 10 Taiwanese companies, primarily from the manufacturing sectors such as electronics, are currently on a tour of the business ecosystem and infrastructure facilities in South Tamil Nadu districts of Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi as Taiwan looks to deepen its association with the State.Sources in the know said that large companies — some already in TN and some first-timers — are currently being shown around some key strengths of the region such as the SIPCOT industrial parks, port facilities and other manufacturing clusters. Some of these companies, which are already in the industrial area around Chennai, are looking to diversify within the State for their expansion plans, the source said. The tour runs for three days and is planned to be exhaustive, the person added.The Taiwanese companies have not announced concrete investment plans yet, but they are keen on South Tamil Nadu for their electronics and semiconductor projects, sources told businessline. Companies part of the delegation did not respond to queries.Taiwan is among the largest source of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Tamil Nadu with the likes of Foxconn, Pegatron, Delta Electronics, and non-leather footwear manufacturers such as Pou Chen Group, Hong Fu Industrial Group and others being key Taiwanese investors.“The Taiwan-US-India trio has emerged successful for Tamil Nadu as Taiwanese companies look to manufacture at scale for US companies out of India,” an investment official said.The Taipei Economic and Cultural Center (TECC) in Chennai also marked its 14th anniversary recently as it completed a decade of facilitating relations between Taiwan and South India across trade, investment, technology, education, and culture.Published on June 29, 2026
